people talk about windows being bloated as its ISOs approach 5GB, but macOS' installation image already hit 12GB (and the server is often slow, which pairs really well with the download not being resumable). It's also the heaviest OS i've ever encountered. there's barely any built-in options to customize (whether appearance or performance) and you can't replace the DE or other system components either (you can still get a good amount of UI mods, they're just applied on top of what's already there) MacOS is unixy enough that many devs feel comfortable there, but more locked down than windows in many ways. Remember kids use LTS for Servers if you don’t want to rebuild your server. Linux you can keep updating, unless your a retard like me and gets Ubuntu 18.10 Server to reach its EOL and can’t upgrade to stable version. This is another thing with MacOS while the iMac I have is capable of running Big Sur I never got it. But I swapped HDD which dies for SSD and upgraded to 16GB from base 8GB.

The M1 is more limited as it’s not officially an iGPU per say like Intel or AMD counterparts. Proton isn’t a thing as far as I can tell, so you will be limited by whatever runs on Mac. You can’t uninstall Steam and half of the OS… There’s no tinkering with configs when you upgrade to next version and your video card shits itself. On other hand MacOS just works out the box.

You can expand functionality with Brew, but you won’t have the degree of customization and DE options as on Linux.
